Male Infertility (Y-Chromosome Deletion)
Our Male Infertility (Y-Chromosome deletion) test analyses hormone levels and looks for genetic abnormalities on the Y-Chromosome that would cause infertility in men.
Infertility is the inability to impregnate a woman despite carefully timed unprotected sexual intercourse for up to a year.
Y-Chromosome microdeletion is a genetic disorder caused by missing genes in the Y- chromosome (chromosome from the Father) that affects the production of sperm, making it difficult for a man to father a child. It is the cause of a large number of genetic infertility in men.
Our Male Infertility (Y-Chromosome deletion) test is a quicker form of Y-Chromosome detection that requires only a small amount of blood. It analyses hormone levels and looks for genetic abnormalities on the Y-Chromosome that would cause infertility in men.
Why Get Tested
Y-Chromosome deletion has been found at high rates in infertile men. Men with this condition may produce no sperm cells (azoospermia), a smaller than normal number of sperm cells (oligospermia), or sperm cells that are abnormally shaped or do not move properly. Men with Y-Chromosome deletion usually do not have any other sign or symptom apart from this and as such genetic testing is recommended.
This test requires a blood sample. The blood sample can be collected at one of our partner locations or at home using our on-demand sample collection service.
